In 2011, GFC Inc was funded by the Society for the Conservation and Study or Caribbean Birds (SCSCB) for a project aimed at increasing support for NMBs and wetland conservation in the Caribbean region by promoting monitoring of NMBs as a means to improve science-based conservation planning and adaptive management of birds.
The objectives were to:
Promote management and monitoring of NM wetland bird populations by implementing the CWC
Develop local capacity to develop, implement and present the results of monitoring projects.
Promote community outreach and education
Contribute to maintenance, management, protection or restoration of bird habitat
This project is continuously being funded presently amounting to US $ 20,700.00, as bird counts are conducted in various habitats and entered on a monthly basis by volunteers trained in Bird Counting Protocols.
